When importing samples, all shipments declared of no commercial value must be properly mutilated before importation. If this is not adhered to, SARS may levy a penalty, request a declaration of true value with duty and tax subsequently payable. There will be delays in having the shipment released.
The document contains the SARS guidelines for mutilation of Footwear, Textiles, and various garments.
If there is any doubt as to whether the goods are properly mutilated samples then a true value invoice must be submitted, VAT and Duty will be charged and the shipment will be released immediately.
